20th Anniversary and 9th Summer School
NZC 20th anniversary and the 9th Summer School
NZC will organize a workshop in Beijing to celebrate her 20-year’s anniversary, aiming to review the collaborations in climate research during the past 20 years and further to consolidate the partnerships. Additionally, a summer school will be organized to promote international exchanges among graduate students and broaden their international horizons.
The workshop will take place during October 9-15, 2023 at Foreign Experts Building Beijing Hotel (http://www.feb-hotel.com)and the 9th Summer School at Zhongjia Palace Hotel (http://www.bj-jdhy.com/zjxy), in Beijing, China (see more practical information here. The topic will focus on “Arctic-Eurasian Climate Change and Variability”.

Genral information
After 20 years’ development, Nansen-Zhu International Research Centre (NZC) has become one of the best examples of Chinese-Norwegian research collaboration. It has contributed significantly to advance climate research as well as the training, education, and exchange of young students in China and Norway. To review and outlook NZC’s contribution to climate research, NZC will organize a workshop. This workshop will consist of 2-day annual meeting (9-10 October) and 5-day summer school (11-15 October), focusing on a challenging and hot topic: “Arctic-Eurasian Climate Change and Variability”.
Arctic warming concurrent with dramatic sea-ice decline during the past decades, is a robust finding in both observational and modelling studies. As a key climate system component, Arctic sea ice has global impacts. Associated with the Arctic warming, significantly anomalous weather and climate were observed in Asia and Europe, leading to tremendous efforts into understanding the linkages between Arctic and Eurasian climate. In this summer school, senior scientists and PhD students will learn together the state-of-the-art knowledge on the variability and mechanisms of Arctic and Eurasian climate.
The summer school of NZC is a biennial event taking place alternatively in China and Europe. This summer school in 2023 is designed for professionals who are interested in advanced knowledge and methodology in climate research, for example in Asian monsoon dynamics, Arctic warming and sea ice loss, climate extremes, climate prediction, and climate dynamics. Learning activities include lectures given by senior scientists and presentations given by young researchers (MA and PhD students/postdocs). Lectures will be given in the morning and afternoon and there is time for interactive discussions between senior scientists and young researchers including graduate students. This summer school aims to help young researchers to develop skills in collaboration and communication, and to build a strong early-career science network.
